A lot of soldiers buried in this cemetery died in the hospital located in the Southwest of Bayeux.
Indeed, the city of Bayeux was spared from actual combat so it served as a refuge for the wounded and for the British Army during the battle of Normandy.
The British War Cemetery also contains the burials of Canadian, Australian, Neo-Zealander, South African, Pole, Russian, French, Italian, Czech and German soldiers.
